What's an OTP Token? How do I get one?

What is it?

A one-time password token (OTP token) is a security software program that is capable of producing a single-use passwords or PINs. By using this, we are making sure that your account is protect by what you already know (your password) and you what you have (token generated on your phone)

How do I get one?

Setup mobile app authentication if you haven't done so

Note: You need to be on Paychex network in order to setup mobile app authentication

  • Go to https://forgot.paychex.com and login using your credentials
  • Click on Setup Mobile App Authentication
  • On your phone, search and download Microsoft Authenticator app from the App Store or Google Play
  • On your phone, Open the Authenticator app, once it is downloaded and installed From the menu, choose Add Account. Then select Work or School account and scan the QR barcode
  • On your computer, on forgot.paychex.com Setup Mobile App Authentication page, click on Continue and enter the current token from the Authenticator App for verification
  • At this point your device enrolment should be successfully completed

Generate a token on your phone

Open the Authenticator app and look for the entry for forgot.paychex.com. If the token isn't shown, click on the downward arrow (v) and choose Show Code.

Note that tokens are valid for a short period of time

Prior to logging in, hourly employees must obtain pre-approval from their manager in order to consume content provided herein while working outside of the office environment.
